How AMP works ↗
  1. 01

    Find a starting point.

A short placement adapts to the answers. Separate estimates for different areas keep a strong skill from hiding a gap.

  2. 02

Work at the edge of understanding.

Mixed practice selects problems from the learner’s skill estimates and revisits earlier work.

Lesson excerpt · Equal parts of one whole

Name the whole first

Choose one whole, such as one rectangle. Divide it into equal-area parts. The denominator counts all the equal parts in that whole; the numerator counts the selected parts.

If three of eight equal parts are shaded, the shaded amount is 38\tfrac{3}{8}. The unshaded parts are included when counting the denominator.
